Restylane® and Juvederm® Pre and Post-Care

Dermal Filler Pre-Care

Proper pre-care ensures a smooth injection process, minimizes bruising and swelling, and enhances the longevity of your dermal fillers. Follow these steps for the best results.

5-7 Days Before Treatment

Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications & Supplements – These increase the risk of bruising and swelling. If   possible, avoid:

• Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)

• Naproxen (Aleve)

• Fish oil, Omega-3, Vitamin E

• Ginkgo biloba, Turmeric, Green Tea Extract

Hydrate Well – Drink plenty of water to keep your skin plump and healthy.

Limit Alcohol & Caffeine – These can contribute to bruising and dehydration.

Consider Taking Arnica – A natural supplement that helps reduce bruising.

 Avoid:

Chemical Peels, Laser Treatments, or Facials – No aggressive skin treatments 1 week before.

24-48 Hours Before Treatment

Continue Hydration – Well-hydrated skin helps achieve optimal filler results.

Avoid Alcohol & Salty Foods – These can increase swelling and fluid retention.

Arrive with a Clean Face – No makeup, lotions, or skincare products on the treatment area.

Eat a Light Meal Before Your Appointment – Prevents dizziness or nausea during treatment.

 Avoid:

Intense Exercise – No heavy workouts the day before treatment.

Flying or Long Travel Plans – If possible, avoid flights for 24-48 hours post-treatment to minimize   swelling.

Day of Treatment

Relax & Stay Calm – The procedure is quick, and discomfort is minimal.

Wear Comfortable Clothing – Loose-fitting clothing allows for easy movement.

Discuss Your Goals with Your Provider – Bring reference photos or explain your desired results.

Inform Us of Any Medical Conditions – If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have allergies, let us know   before treatment.

 Avoid:

Makeup on the Treatment Area – Skin should be clean and product-free.

Lying Down Immediately After Treatment – Follow post-care instructions carefully.

 Key Takeaways:

Avoid Blood Thinners & Alcohol – Helps reduce bruising and swelling.

Stay Hydrated & Eat Before Your Appointment – Ensures a comfortable treatment experience.

Arrive with a Clean Face – No makeup, lotions, or skincare products.

Plan for Downtime – Mild swelling and bruising are normal, so schedule treatments at least 1-2 weeks   before any big event.

Dermal Filler Post-Care

 First 24 Hours Post-Treatment

Apply Cold Compress (If Needed) – Use gentle ice packs wrapped in a soft cloth for 5-10 minutes every   hour to reduce swelling and bruising.

Stay Hydrated – Drink plenty of water to support the filler’s integration.

Avoid Touching or Massaging the Area – Unless instructed by your provider.

Sleep with Head Elevated – Use an extra pillow to reduce swelling overnight.

Mild Swelling, Redness & Bruising is Normal – These side effects typically subside within a few days.

 Avoid:

Alcohol & Blood Thinners – No aspirin, ibuprofen, or fish oil to prevent excess bruising.

Strenuous Exercise & Heat – No gym, sauna, or excessive sweating.

Makeup Application – Avoid makeup for at least 12 hours to prevent irritation.

Days 2-7: Healing & Settling Phase

Swelling & Bruising May Peak in 48 Hours – This is normal and will gradually subside.

Use Arnica or Bromelain (If Needed) – These natural supplements help reduce bruising and swelling.

Gently Massage Only If Advised – Your provider may recommend light massaging for certain fillers like Radiesse® or Sculptra®.

Avoid Sleeping on Your Face – Continue sleeping on your back with your head elevated.

Minimal Lumps or Asymmetry is Normal – Fillers settle over 7-14 days.

 Avoid:

Excessive Sun Exposure & Tanning Beds – UV exposure can break down fillers faster.

Facial Massages or Skin Treatments – No facials, microneedling, or lasers for 2 weeks.

Week 2+: Final Results & Maintenance

Fillers Fully Settle Within 2 Weeks – Swelling and minor bruising should be resolved.

Evaluate Symmetry – If adjustments are needed, a follow-up visit can be scheduled.

Maintain Results with Hydration & Skincare – Moisturizers, hyaluronic acid serums, and SPF help   prolong filler longevity.

Plan for Maintenance – Most fillers last 6-18 months, depending on the product and treatment area.
